17-year-old Charged After Tuesday Night Shooting
A 17-year-old was charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault and shooting into an unoccupied vehicle Wednesday afternoon after a double shooting late Tuesday night left two young men seriously injured.
Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said the suspect, 17-year-old Jkerion Williams, reportedly had a disagreement with the victims and shot both of them at Broadmoore Gardens apartments Tuesday night.
The victims, 16 and 18 years old, both suffered "serious injuries," Kennedy said, and are still being treated at DCH Regional Medical Center.
Kennedy said the shooting does not appear to be linked in any way to other recent acts of gun violence in the Tuscaloosa area, which have spiked in the last few weeks.
Williams was identified as a suspect, located and arrested Wednesday by VCU investigators, the Tuscaloosa Police Department and the federal US Mashalls Task Force. He was booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on an $80,000 combined bond and remained there Wednesday afternoon. Kennedy said he will be charged as an adult.
