20-Year-Old Killed in High-Speed Crash East of Tuscaloosa Friday
A 20-year-old Northport woman was killed early Friday morning in a single-car accident east of the Tuscaloosa city limits, according to information released by Alabama State Troopers.
An Alabama Law Enforcement Agency spokesman said Kayla Elizabeth Jean Burnett, 20, was driving a 2002 GMC Sierra on Hargrove Road East just after 5 o'clock Friday morning when the car left the road and struck a tree.
First responders found Burnett dead on the scene. She was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt.
The ALEA spokesperson said although the circumstances of the crash are still under investigation, police believe speed was a contributing factor.
Nothing further is available as Troopers with the ALEA's Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
