Governor Ivey Announces Boost to Early Education
Alabama is putting more focus on the early years, announcing a major expansion that could impact classrooms across the state.
Governor Kay Ivey revealed that 35 new classrooms will be added through Alabama’s Pre K through 3rd Grade Integrated Approach to Early Learning, also known as the P 3 initiative.
The move is part of the state’s larger push to make sure students are set up for success before they even reach middle school.
“Alabama continues to make meaningful investments in early childhood education because we know these early years matter,” Governor Ivey said, according to the press release. “By expanding the P 3 approach in more schools, we are helping ensure students receive consistent, high quality instruction that supports their learning from pre k through third grade.”
The P 3 model is designed to connect learning from pre k all the way through third grade, helping schools build a smoother transition during the years when kids develop key reading and academic skills.
State leaders say that consistency is the goal. Instead of students having to adjust to completely different learning styles year after year, this approach helps create a more stable and supportive environment.

The initiative is being led by the Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education, working alongside the Alabama State Department of Education to bring research based strategies into classrooms and improve student outcomes.
“This expansion reflects Alabama’s continued commitment to supporting our youngest learners and the educators who serve them,” Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education Secretary Ami Brooks said, according to the press release. “When schools align instruction from pre k through third grade, students benefit from a more consistent and supportive learning environment during some of the most important years of their educational journey.”
The new classrooms are expected to roll out during the 2026 to 2027 school year, giving more schools across Alabama access to the program.
