Alabama: Netflix May Raise Prices Yet Again Soon

I've never been so frustrated with a streaming company as I am with Netflix right now.

I had to check the calendar to make sure it wasn't April and this was a joke!

It really feels like a few months ago Netflix announced they were cracking down on password sharing and raising their rates. Now, it's been announced that Netflix may raise their prices again.

According to Yahoo Finance, Netflix is considering raising the price of their ad-free plan. It's looking like the price hike is due to the end of the SAG-AFTRA writers' strike.

Netflix may not be in my household anymore if this does come to pass.

With all of the streaming options available from Paramount Plus, Disney Plus, Hulu, Peacock, and more, I refuse to pay more than $15 for one service that quite frankly doesn't have many great options when it comes to content.

In January of 2023, Netlfix announced they'd be cracking down on users who share their passwords.

An article on Forbes says that Netflix plans to begin a new paid option for users who wish to share their passwords.

“Today’s widespread account sharing (100M+ households) undermines our long-term ability to invest in and improve Netflix, as well as build our business,” Netflix said in a shareholder letter.

According to the Yahoo Finance article, Third Bridge Analyst Jamie Lumley says that

“On the backs of the writers' strike finishing, whenever the actors' strike finishes, content prices will likely be more expensive,” Lumley says. As Netflix thinks “about their underlying profitability, finding a way to really strengthen their position, price hikes is one way to really do that.”
