Road conditions are beginning to become more dangerous in West Alabama during an incoming winter storm.

ALDOT sent an urgent message to residents warning of dangerous road conditions.

"Some routes may become impassable during the night," ALDOT West Central post on X formally known as Twitter.  Drivers are being urged to avoid unnecessary travel.

Icy conditions are being reported across the region according to ALGO Tuscaloosa. There's reports of ice on the road in Fayette.

There's also reports of icy road condition in Vernon as well.

Townsquare Media Chief Meteorologist James Spann gave an update on what's to come.

"Temperatures are now below freezing as far south as Birmingham and Tuscaloosa freezing rain could lead to bridge icing very soon. I would stay off the roads north of I-59… they are mostly ice covered and dangerous," Spann said on social media.

Spann continued, "Many county governments have deemed roads impassable."

 

Schools have announced delays and closings in West Alabama including the University of Alabama.
