A new furniture store is under construction in Tuscaloosa and will open its doors late this spring.

Badcock Home Furniture, which has been in business for 117 years and opened almost 400 stores across eight southern states including Alabama, Florida, Mississippi and Georgia, is building a large warehouse off Skyland Boulevard East behind the Los Torascos Mexican restaurant.

The store will be owned by Will and Rod Morgan, two brothers who have opened six Badcock Home Furniture stores in North Alabama.

"The corporation is always looking to try to service as many communities as possible that fit who we are," Morgan said. "We're a Southern Company and always will be and we try to service all of those southern communities."

Morgan said that he and his brother were both born and raised in the Yellowhammer state. Rod Morgan is an alumnus of The University of Alabama and the brothers have always wanted to return to Tuscaloosa to run a business. Morgan said that they looked for about three to four years to find the right place to open a store but struggled to do so after the 2011 tornado.

"We're just excited to get into that community and to start building relationships there," Morgan said. "That's what the Badcock corporation is all about."

Morgan said that the store will look to open its doors in mid-June. For more information, check out the Badcock Home Furniture website.
