Celebrate at the 36th Moundville Native American Festival
The University of Alabama’s Moundville Archaeological Park will host the 36th annual Moundville Native American Festival. This vibrant event celebrates the rich cultures of southeastern Native Americans, bringing together community, education, and fun for all ages.
Festival-goers will have the unique opportunity to engage with Native American artisans, witness traditional dances, and enjoy captivating storytelling and music. The festival features live demonstrations of Native American lifeways, including flint knapping, art techniques, and cultural performances.
Kids can dive into hands-on activities in the children’s area, where they can learn traditional games like stickball and chunky. Be sure to catch the exciting stickball demonstration match on Saturday!
“The demonstrators and artists are the backbone of this festival,” said Marsha Holley, director of the event. “Our mission is to make Native American education accessible to everyone in the community.”
In addition to educational experiences, attendees can explore a variety of vendors and food trucks offering delicious treats, including the ever-popular fry bread tacos.
As one of the largest celebrations of Native American culture in Alabama, this festival provides a unique opportunity to learn from the state’s diverse Native communities. It’s a perfect outing for students and families alike, offering fresh perspectives on our shared history.
Admission is $10 for adults, students, and seniors, while children 5 and under can enter for free. Tickets can only be purchased at the event.
Festival hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Don’t miss this chance to immerse yourself in Native American culture!
