Today, a cold front passes through Alabama and will usher in some of the coldest temperatures we have experienced this season. Most of our coverage area will stay in the 40-degree range for Friday, January 28, 2022. Then temperatures will drop significantly.

Snow chances?

According to James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said that the “best chance of seeing a few snowflakes is north and east of Birmingham; no accumulation or impact is expected with temperatures generally in the mid to upper 30s and a gusty north wind.”

The Usefulness of Understanding Wind Chill Temperatures

The helpfulness of knowing the wind chill factor gives you a sense of how cold it will feel to exposed skin when outdoors. You will commonly see forecasts with a “feels like” temperature. I always suggest planning around the “feels like” temperature information.

Spann notes that “the big story is the cold air; with a clearing, sky temperatures will drop into the 17-24 degree range over the northern half of the state early tomorrow, with a wind chill index between 8 and 18 degrees. Tomorrow will be a sunny day with a high in the 37-42 degree range. Then, on Sunday, after a low in the 20s temperatures will rise into the 50s by afternoon with a sunny sky.”
