Organizers are calling on the Tuscaloosa community to come together Saturday afternoon for the first-ever Stop the Violence Community Day Out, an event focused on healing, remembrance and unity.

The event will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Palmore Park and is especially encouraging parents to bring children and teenagers ages 13 to 17, particularly those who have experienced the loss of a close family member.

Hosted by Mourning Moms, the free community gathering will address issues including gun violence, domestic violence, suicide and mental health while offering a space for healing and support.

Guests can expect speakers sharing stories of loss and hope, activities for children, food and refreshments, local vendors and fellowship throughout the afternoon. A candlelight remembrance and “Bubbles of Hope” tribute are also planned.

In a message ahead of the event, organizers challenged community members who have been vocal about the need for change to show up in person and be part of the solution.

“This is not about politics,” organizers said, noting they hope the community will fill Palmore Park with “grace, peace and positive energy.”

Organizers say the mission is simple: bring people together, raise awareness and continue the fight to stop violence in the community.

The event is open to the public, and donations will be accepted to support the organization’s ongoing efforts.
