Free Family Event Coming to Tuscaloosa YMCA
Families across West Alabama are invited to come out for a free day of community resources, activities, food, and fun as Community Service Programs of West Alabama prepares for its first ever Community Action Day.
While on The Big Dawg DreDay Show in the Morning, with Comedian LP, Tashia Napier, Executive Assistant to the Executive Director for Community Service Programs of West Alabama, said the event is designed to connect local families with resources and services in a welcoming environment.
“We are hosting our very first Community Action Day this Saturday, May the 23rd from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. and it’ll be at the Benjamin Barnes YMCA,” Napier said.
According to Napier, the organization created the event to bring community partners together in one location while making it easier for residents to learn about programs and services available in the area.
“We just created this event to really connect families and community members with free resources, services, and activities and have community partners all in one place,” Napier said.
Napier also highlighted the organization’s long history of serving the community.
“If y’all know anything about community service, we are an agency. Next year, we will have been an agency for 60 years,” Napier said. “Our mission is to help individuals and families move toward stability and self sufficiency.”

The free event will include activities for both children and adults. Families can expect face painting, temporary tattoos, cornhole, board games, limbo, and even a line dancing session led by Ashley Wheat.
“We have a lot of fun stuff,” Napier said. “We’re excited and we want everybody to come out.”
The event will also feature giveaways, including Chick fil A gift card raffles for children and gift card giveaways for older adults.
Two food trucks, Black Ice Snow Cones and Food Traffic Food Truck, will also be on site with food available for purchase.
Napier said the organization is especially thankful to Benjamin Barnes YMCA and Executive Director Lakita for partnering on the event and donating the space.
Community Action Day is free and open to the public.
