Tuscaloosa Brewery Pays Homage to Saban, Schwarzenegger and Will Anderson in New Chalk Art
Many already know the Crimson Tide's star junior linebacker Will Anderson as 'the Terminator,' but the defensive powerhouse is playing the role of another Arnold Schwarzenegger character in new art unveiled Friday.
At Tuscaloosa's Druid City Brewing Company, artist Rich Marcks' tradition has long been to marry Bama football and pop culture in instantly iconic chalk art on the back wall of the taproom.
Marcks' masterpieces are almost too many to count at this point -- Nick Saban as Marvel mega-antagonist Thanos, Lane Kiffin emerging from the sea like the goddess Aphrodite, every SEC head football coach seated around a Christ-like Saban in a parody of The Last Supper -- every unveiling has been a delight.
Now, Marcks and Druid City Brewing are back with a new piece for the 2022 session -- the Last Sack-tion Hero, a riff on Schwarzenegger's 1993 comedy adventure Last Action Hero.
The new work mimics the cover of the 1993 movie, swapping Schwarzenegger's over-the-top tough guy protagonist Jack Slater with Will Anderson and the child tucked under his arm for Coach Saban.
Like Arnold on the cover, Anderson's other comically sized arm is hanging the landing rail of a helicopter as it flies away from an explosion and out of a movie theater screen. It objectively rules.
Druid City Brewing, which will celebrate its 10-year anniversary later this year, is located in the heart of Tuscaloosa and a few blocks away from Bryant-Denny Stadium in Parkview Plaza off 15th Street.
Stop by soon for a pint or two of craft beer, a live music set, a game of trivia or to just admire another Rich Marcks masterpiece -- Bo and co. will take good care of you.
