Demolition Set for Wednesday Morning at Former Site of Bar 17

Wednesday morning, the former site of what was most recently Bar 17 is set to be demolished.

Developer Stan Pate, who has loudly voiced his opposition to current city leadership, is now the owner of that property.  Following clearance by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management, Pate has announced plans to demolish the partially standing building.

Numerous bars, clubs, restaurants, and other businesses have long occupied that property.  Because of different crimes committed in the area, the plaza had become one of the places which aroused apprehensive reactions when mentioned to some Tuscaloosa residents.

Now, it's no secret that Pate is no fan of current city leadership, as he's paid for many billboards across the city, condemning Mayor Walt Maddox for his lack of progress in the Black community.

Apparently, Pate is one who isn't afraid to put his money where his mouth is, as he's now invested in a prime West Tuscaloosa property. One of the largest commercial developers in the city, it's not beyond reason to expect Pate to rebuild a facility which provides either a necessity to the West End or to establish a development which draws consumers to the area.

Whatever the case, it all goes down (literally) Wednesday morning, beginning at 8:15a.m. The location is near the intersection of 15th Street, Stillman Boulevard, and MLK Blvd.
