West Alabama Celebrates 1 Million Books Given to Children

A major childhood literacy milestone is being celebrated in West Alabama as Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library reaches its 1 millionth book delivered to children in the region.

United Way of West Alabama’s Success By 6 program is partnering with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to host a “1 Millionth Book Celebration” on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Tuscaloosa Public Library.

The milestone represents one million books placed in the hands of young children across West Alabama through the early childhood literacy initiative.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library provides free, age-appropriate books to enrolled children from birth until age 5, with books mailed directly to their homes. The program is designed to encourage families to read together and help children develop early literacy skills before entering school.

Locally, the initiative is part of United Way of West Alabama’s Success By 6 efforts, which focus on helping children build a strong foundation during their earliest years.

Organizers are inviting families and community members to attend the October celebration and recognize the impact the program has made on young readers throughout the region.

The event will take place at the Tuscaloosa Public Library from 9 to 11 a.m.

The organization describes the milestone as a celebration not only of the number of books distributed, but also of the families and young readers reached through the program.
