Drink Up And Celebrate National Hydration Day

You got it right; it’s National Hydration Day.  Odd holiday, maybe?  Or maybe not!  Staying hydrated is vital for us all.  If I remember anything from health class in high school, the human body needs water to operate correctly.  I remember spending eight hours in an emergency room with my father.  They ran numerous tests, x-rays, and more.  The end result, he was dehydrated.  Of course, I asked my Dad what happened, he told me, he just didn’t like the taste of water, it was too plain.  [Insert rolling eyes lol]

According to National Today, the SafeTGard Company created this holiday to honor “late football coach Victor Hawkins, who invented a special hydrating mouthguard to keep his players healthy on the field.”   Also, the holiday was created to create awareness because “whether you’re a professional athlete, a casual exerciser, or someone who simply loves to spend time outside in the sun, drinking water is key to avoiding heat stroke, dehydration, and other dangerous issues.”  Great information for sure, to take it a step further about the importance of hydration.  According to the School of Public Health at Harvard, “drinking enough water each day is crucial for many reasons: to regulate body temperature, keep joints lubricated, prevent infections, deliver nutrients to cells, and keep organs functioning properly. Being well-hydrated also improves sleep quality, cognition, and mood.”  So drink up!  Keep hydrated especially with water, it is essential.
