Nakami Townsell was born and raised in Gordo, Alabama. After high school, she attended Shelton State Community College and later transferred to Stillman College where she majored in Elementary Education. Townsell later attended the University of West Alabama where she received her master’s degree in Elementary Education. 

Townsell is currently a 2nd grade teacher and the director of the 21st Century Community Learning Center at Southview Elementary School. She has been an educator for 18 years and loves every minute of it. Townsell is also an active member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church-Tuscaloosa, Alabama where she serves as Youth Director, Vice President of the Outreach Ministry, Youth Praise Dance Leader and a member of the Pastor Aide Ministry. 

Townsell is the mother of three beautiful daughters, Kelsey (24), Kaitlyn (16) and Kalea (14). She is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated-Eta Xi Omega Chapter -Tuscaloosa, Alabama and serves as the corresponding secretary for the Stillman College Alumni Association-Tuscaloosa Chapter. 

Two of her favorite quotes are “Never be limited by other people’s limited imaginations.”-Dr. Mae Jemison and “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.”-Frederick Douglass”.
