Fabolous Disinvited From Georgetown Rally Because of Abuse Claims

Fabolous was supposed to be performing at Georgetown's Hoya Madness event tonight (Oct. 11), but because of domestic abuse allegations leveled against him, he won't be in the building.

On Tuesday, Georgetown officials released a statement indicating that the rapper had been disinvited to the event.

"After engaging with students, we have cancelled the musical act for 2019 Hoya Madness," the statement reads in part. "We take domestic violence very seriously and were unaware of the charges against the entertainer when he was booked through a third-party entity. We are committed to enhanced vetting of future performers and doing all that we can to support a safe and respectful community."

According to student-run newspaper The Hoya, Fabolous was scheduled to perform along with veteran media personality Big Tigger, Georgetown University’s cheerleaders and a pep band.

Fabolous was indicted for domestic abuse charges last year after being arrested for allegedly attacking the mother of his son, Emily Bustamante, March 2018. This past March, he reportedly agreed to a plea deal that helped him avoid jail time.

While the legal part of the incident is seemingly behind Fabolous and Bustamante, students at Georgetown were not willing to forgive the Brooklyn rapper.

In an Oct. 8 blog post, Ollie Hanner, a member of H*yas For Choice, a student-run reproductive rights advocacy group, urged the university to disinvite Fabolous because his alleged actions contradict the university’s core values.

"Why did Georgetown hire him?" reads one part of Hanner's post. "It’s impossible to deny who he is - an abuser," he wrote. "We could assume that the school hired him out of ignorance if we wanted to, but a quick look at his Wikipedia page would let them know how problematic he is."
