In West Alabama, we are no strangers to manufacturing jobs.  From shingles, to automobiles, automotive parts and everything in between, companies in West Alabama are responsible for a variety of goods used by people across the country.

One of the little known manufacturers of a major hot commodity right now is located right in Fayette, AL!

Nitrile, single-use PPE gloves which are used by front-line industrial, service, transportation, healthcare and government workers are produced by SHOWA, described as a fully integrated manufacturer of industrial and household PPE gloves.  The company has announced a strategic partnership to meet critical and future supply needs for COVID-19 personal protective equipment gloves in the United States.

The Fayette operation is said to be turning out four million gloves per week to meet the rising demand. This capacity reduces the nation’s reliance on overseas suppliers.

It’s easy for us to recognize frontline workers in the fight against COVID-19, but we don’t often think about those who work in the areas that produce our protective equipment.  If not for them, essential workers would be more at risk than they already are!

SHOWA currently employs more than 400 workers in the U.S., with plans to expand the workforce significantly in the coming months.

So, if you know of anyone who works for SHOWA, be sure to thank them for the work they do to keep everyone safe. Employees may see their jobs as a means of securing income for themselves or their families, but their product increases the safety for families across the nation.

THAT is something to honor!
