Officer Cousette was a veteran of the United States Army and a graduate of Alabama State University. He joined the Tuscaloosa Police Department in 2006. Mayor Walt Maddox called Cousette a hero at a press conference last night, stating that Cousette left behind two daughters and a fiancee.

Officer Cousette was serving a warrant on a suspect yesterday (Monday, September 16) evening when the suspect fled into a house. Cousette followed the suspect into the home where the two exchanged gunfire. Cousette was shot in the head and transported to DCH Regional Medical Center where he died around 8 p.m.
