We all know that the state of Alabama has rich history when it comes to sports, the civil rights movement and even southern hospitality. Does that southern hospitality include curse words?

Did you know that the term "four letter word" dates back as early as the 1920's?
According to The Ashland Chronicle, the curse word F***, is believed to have come from the Middle Dutch “fokken,” Norwegian “fukka,” or Swedish “focka,” all of which mean several things, including “to copulate.”
They also state that some of the earliest expletives were phrases referencing religion, such as “by God’s bones,” “God’s nails,” or really anything to do with God that wasn’t a literal and sincere oath.

Well, a lot of times people in Alabama are compared or brought up in conversation with neighboring states like Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana and Texas.

According to this map, Alabama's favorite curse word is SH**.
It turns out, according to this map, up to 15 states chose that same word as their favorite making it the most popular curse word in the nation.
