Gov. Ivey Announces $3.6M for Road Improvements

Gov. Kay Ivey announced that more than $3.6 million in state funding has been awarded to cities and counties across Alabama to support 11 local road improvement projects.

The funding marks the second round of grants issued this year through the Alabama Department of Transportation's Annual Grant Program, which was established under the Rebuild Alabama Act. The law, signed by Ivey in 2019, sets aside at least $10 million each year from the state's share of gas tax revenue to help fund local transportation projects.

"Strong, safe and reliable infrastructure is one of the reasons our state attracts record-breaking investments and jobs," Ivey said. "Rebuild Alabama is delivering lasting improvements, ensuring we have the strong transportation network needed to support our growing economy and those who drive our roads and bridges."

In addition to the state funding, local governments are contributing more than $1.5 million in matching funds toward the projects. Communities receiving grants are required to begin work within one year of receiving the funding.

Since the Rebuild Alabama Act became law, ALDOT's Annual Grant Program has awarded more than $81.8 million to support transportation improvements in communities across the state.
