Governor Kay Ivey is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the July 5th shooting death of Zakia Bibbs, the first unsolved murder in Tuscaloosa County since 2013.

Bibbs was in a car with friends heading north on I-20/59 when an SUV passed them with its high beams on. Investigators believe the two cars passed each other several times before the occupants of SUV drove alongside the Ford Fusion Bibbs was inside and opened fire.

Bibbs and several occupants in her vehicle were struck by bullets. Their driver pulled off the interstate at Exit 97 outside Lake View and found that she had beed killed.

Her death is Tuscaloosa County's first unsolved homicide since 2013, when Kate Ragsdale was murdered in her own home in the Highlands neighborhood in Tuscaloosa. Every murder in the county since then has led to criminal charges being filed.

Ivey announced Tuesday that her office has approved a $5,000 reward for information bringing Bibbs' killer or killers to justice, an move originally requested by the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney's Office.

Anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) involved in this case would be eligible for the governor’s reward of $5,000.
