Free ‘Kickoff to Health’ Event Coming to Eutaw
Legacy Medical Training Center is expanding its health and education partnerships in Greene County while preparing to launch a new community support initiative focused on hypertension and diabetes.
The organization will host its free “Kickoff to Health” community event Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Legacy Medical Training Center, located at 117 Greensboro Street in Eutaw.
The event will serve as the first session of a community hypertension and diabetes support group. Organizers describe the program as an open forum centered on education, prevention and support for better heart health and blood sugar control.
Topics will include understanding high blood pressure and diabetes, prevention and early detection, healthy lifestyle choices, medication and disease management, community resources and a question-and-answer session with the Legacy team.
The event is open to adults ages 18 and older at no cost, and lunch will be provided.

Legacy is also using the event to highlight several partnerships aimed at expanding health education, training and resources in Greene County.
Legacy Medical Training Center recently partnered with the Minds and Mentors Paraprofessional Training Program, or MiMP-TP, to expand training and mentorship opportunities.
The organization is also developing a collaboration with the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students at The University of Alabama. According to Legacy, MAPS students will volunteer with the organization, with plans to eventually develop and host student-led health and wellness programs at the Eutaw facility.
Legacy’s partnerships with the West Alabama Cardiac Health Program and The Life Center Organization are also continuing, with those organizations contributing health education and community resources.
Dr. Mew, a medical adviser and team member, and Legacy founder Desiree’ Seymour, MPH, are listed as members of the community health leadership team for the Sept. 26 event.
