The Philadelphia Eagles will be without their first-round rookie for most of training camp. DeVonta Smith, former Alabama WR, sprained his MCL during camp and could miss up to three weeks, depending on the severity.

While playing at Alabama, Smith suffered a couple minor injuries, including: hamstring strain in 2018, Grade 1 Knee strain and a bruised shoulder in 2019, and also a finger dislocation after the 2021 National Championship Game.

The Eagles have had their fair share of injuries the last couples of years, some being: former QB Carson Wentz’s torn ACL and LCL in 2017, former LB Kamu Grugier-Hill’s 2019 concussion he tried to cover up, and drafted former Alabama C Landon Dickerson, who not only is recovering from a torn ACL, but also has a history of major injuries during his collegiate career.

Despite going 4-11-1 last season, the Eagles have not let injuries stop them. In 2017, they went 13-3 and won Super Bowl 52 with their backup QB Nick Foles. In 2018 and 2019, they went 9-7. During the 2018 playoffs, the Eagles got in as a Wild Card and lost in the divisional round; then, in 2019, won the NFC East and lost in the Wild Card round.

The current Heisman winner was drafted No. 10 overall to the Eagles in the 2021 NFL Draft. He received major hype from the Eagles organization, not only because of his success at Alabama, but also because of the team's current rebuild; releasing three WR’s this off-season, and making former Alabama QB Jalen Hurts their starting QB.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Smith’s injury “is minor and there is no cause for concern.”
