A Homewood, Alabama murder suspect was apprehended in Tuscaloosa and taken into custody early Thursday morning.

Jordan Markice Ricks, 28, was suspected of causing a fatal car crash just south of Birmingham earlier this week.

According to a statement from the Tuscaloosa Police Department, Ricks was pulled over by a Vestavia Hills Police Officer shortly after 6 p.m. Monday near Alford Avenue. He attempted to evade the officer, causing a high-speed chase from I-65 to Lakeshore Parkway.

"The officer observed Ricks’ vehicle jump the median and crash into the Jeep Wrangler occupied by the victim, another adult and her two daughters," read a TPD statement that was posted to the department's Facebook page.

The victim was identified as Robyn Naftel Herring, a 42-year-old mother of two and nurse practitioner at UAB Hospital. There was no word on the conditions of her two children, who were in the car with her.

With the help from TPD and the U.S. Marshals, Ricks was found at an apartment complex off Hargrove Road in Tuscaloosa. After a brief negotiation with the TPD's Special Response Team, he was safely taken into custody just after 8 a.m. Thursday.

The statement indicated that he will soon return to Homewood to face charges for murder and leaving the scene of an accident.

"TPD is pleased our officers had the opportunity to assist the marshals, Homewood and Vestavia police to make a quick arrest in this case," the statement read.
