Alabama DB Enters Transfer Portal

Alabama defensive back Tony Mitchell has filled out the paperwork to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports.

Mitchell, standing at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, will have three years of eligibility remaining. He signed with Alabama as a member of the Tide's 2023 recruiting class after a battle with Auburn for the Thompson High School product.

Mitchell played on special teams in seven games for Alabama in 2023. He totaled one tackle on the season.

Mitchell is the second defensive back to enter the transfer portal this week for Alabama, with true freshman Peyton Woodyard entering the portal on Monday night. Mitchell was expected to provide depth for Alabama's thin secondary. The Tide have lost multiple bodies in that room, with Mitchell and Woodyard being the latest in the spring transfer portal window.

A report earlier in spring had Mitchell entering the portal, but Mitchell replied with a baseball hat emoji, or "cap," which typically means someone is lying.

The Crimson Tide did land a commitment from safety transfer Kameron Howard, who played in 12 games for the Charlotte 49ers in 2023. While his commitment helps the lack of depth, Mitchell's transfer leaves the Tide with one less scholarship heading into the 2024 season.
