Central Spoils Brookwood’s Senior Night With a 36-point Victory on Friday Night
This past Friday night, October 12, 2024, the 6A Central Falcons won their fourth game of the season dominantly, spoiling the senior night of their region adversaries, the Brookwood Panthers, 49-13.
Central began slowly on offense, with the Falcons not finding their groove until 1:17 remaining in the first quarter, when Central's offense tallied a 47-yard touchdown run, putting the Falcons ahead 7-0 following the successful PAT.
Central's defense surrendered a touchdown on the very next drive, with Brookwood tying the game with a 2-yard rushing touchdown and a successful PAT. The Falcons' Special Teams responded immediately with a tremendous kick return to the house for six points, putting Central up 14-7 with 8:02 remaining in the second quarter.
The Falcons' defense put up a brick wall, preventing the Panthers from gaining much ground in the run game, while Brookwood failed to score any additional points in the first half.
Central's offense did the opposite, scoring 14 unanswered points in the final eight minutes of the second quarter, including a 20-yard touchdown run by Falcons' Senior runningback Shunkeith Turner with 4:31 left in the second quarter and a 30-yard rushing touchdown from Sophmore Wide receiver Trayvon Hall, giving Central a comfortable 28-7 lead at halftime.
The Falcons scored 21 more points in the second half, with their rushing offense performing flawlessly, resulting in three touchdowns from three different players, as well as the Falcons' defense playing well in the second half, with the unit recovering a fumble at the start of the second half, setting up Central's offense for a score.
The Falcons' outstanding all-around play in the second half helped Central win 49-13.
Player of the Game
Shunkeith Turner had a fantastic night on the ground, rushing for two touchdowns and more than 135 yards. Turner did an excellent job of identifying the correct holes that his offensive line created for him and was difficult to bring down once contact was made. Turner contributed greatly to Central's victory in Friday night's game.
Central will improve to 4-4 with a bye next week, allowing the Falcons to rest and prepare to meet 6A Region 4 opponent the Hueytown Gophers on the road on Friday, October 25th, 2024.
