Ty Simpson: ” I came to Alabama wanting to be a captain”
Quarterback Ty Simpson now has four games under his belt as a starter. Simpson waited a long time to become a starter at Alabama. The redshirt junior has handled the role well and gained support from his teammates and coaching staff.

On Tuesday, Simpson detailed what it's like being a leader at Alabama and having the trust of his teammates.
"It's a dream come true," Simpson said. "I came to Alabama wanting to be a captain, wanting to have the opportunity to lead a team - lead a team to a national championship. I always dreamed about playing in the SEC, playing in big-time games like this one [upcoming matchup against Vanderbilt], having College Gameday here, and the fact that I get to put my foot in Denny Chimes and be represented for the rest of my life as an Alabama captain. I can bring my kids back here one day, and my grandkids–what more could you ask for? This is the mecca of college football, and the fact that God has given me the opportunity to be here is amazing, and I thank him everyday that I get to live out my dream," Simpson said
Simpson has emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the country, off to a great start in the 2025 season. Each week, Simpson has grown as a leader, player, game manager, and playmaker, continuously strengthening his team and building a great resume for himself and teammates.
Since the start of the 2025 season, Simpson has yet to turn the ball over across four games. He boasts a 69 percent completion rate (88/127), 1,138 passing yards, and 11 touchdowns.
These stats demonstrate his leadership and confidence on the field. He believes his confidences to perform in a Ryan Grubb offense comes from those around him and his faith.
"I have a ton of confidence, it's because of Parker Brailsford–my center–the guys around me, my coaches, and my team in general. There's no other place in the country I would want to play for, and there are no other guys in the country I would want to play with. Being on the field with those guys gives me comfort, and my Lord and Savior gives me comfort. Just being able to play football–I didn't take it for granted, but I just missed it the last couple of years," Simpson said.
His teammates can attest to his leadership, given that they are around him daily and are battling with him on Saturdays. Wide receiver Isaiah Horton has known Simpson for quite some time and has always known he was a leader.
"He's grown tremendously. I already knew he was a leader, but just being here, he's getting comfortable, and as y'all can see, he's growing, and he's continuing to be a leader," Horton said.
