Everyone loves enjoying a good meal, especially when it’s coming from an unexpected place. We all have our favorites that we go to weekly when we don’t have the energy to try new ones.

In Alabama, the options vary because of the expanding culture in certain areas. Only In Your State compiled a list of 13 places we should try, and some of those spots stood out to me more than others.

Barbecue is a culinary staple in Alabama and is often viewed as the state's most popular dish. In Decatur, at Big Bob Gibson’s, they might be inclined to share that sentiment.

At #1 on the list, they have been named first in 13 separate Memphis World Championship BBQ competitions for their pork shoulder alone. And being in Alabama, you can expect to see an original white sauce option. You know Bama is known for that signature white BBQ sauce.

This next place is a unique option, especially if you enjoy restaurants with backstories.

Post Office Pies is said to be one of the top 22 pizza places in the US according to The New York Times.

Its original location was located inside of the former Avondale Post Office with the new location being in Mountain Brook. Known for it’s wood fired pizzas and items like the Swine Pie & garlic cheese bread, this place is surely a good stop if you’re in the area.

Overall, most of our food habits were passed down through our parents. But as we grow older we continue to modify and pass our own habits down to our children.

In Alabama food is one of those pastimes that continues to bring us all together, and these spots could be the next place you and your family choose to embrace as a tradition.
