Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Montego Hoskins grew up playing basketball. He played at Center Point High School and went on to play at Wallace Selma Community College. He later transferred to Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, where he excelled in his last year as a player in 2017-2018, averaging 14.9 points, 1st Team All-Conference, and Defensive Player of The Year.

Instead of continuing to play the game he loved, Hoskins chose to volunteer as a coach for the Stillman Tigers men's basketball team for the 2018-2019 season. After a year of volunteer coaching, Hoskins decided to move on to coaching full-time.

After graduating, he coached at Wallace Selma for three years. He returned to Stillman, where he was given his first opportunity as the men's basketball team assistant coach in 2022. He also knew he would get more recognition coaching at a four-year institution than a two-year.

Hoskins's primary goal at Stillman is to help young men graduate and teach them life lessons presented through coaching basketball.

“I just want to keep pouring into the future and showing my guys that they can do anything that they put their minds to,” he said. “Black history, to me, is celebrating and honoring African Americans who poured into the future. They fought for the rights that we have today. This is something that we all should be grateful for, this showed how powerful people of color could be. Throughout the struggle, we still have managed to make an impact on the world today.”

Since Hoskins, or "Coach Tego," as he is more familiarly known, started at Stillman College as the head assistant coach in 2022, he has helped lead the Tigers to winning seasons each year, with a current winning season in 2024- 2025.

The Stillman College Tigers have also made it to the SSAC Playoff Semi-Finals for the past two years. Hoskins is also the head coach of Stillman's JV team. He helps the young men on the team who may have thought basketball was no longer an option. He shows them that they still have a chance to make their dreams come true.

Coach Tego has poured a lot of time and effort into both teams. Even with some practices running until 11:45 to midnight, he is always on time the next day, ready to help the young men prepare for not only the next game but for the life ahead of them.
