
Alabama Under Midweek Marginal Risk: Concern for Hail and Winds
Today, Monday, September 22, officially ushers in the first day of fall. While the season may be changing, the weather will be much of the same. West Alabama residents can expect much of the same, with scattered showers and some thunderstorms developing this afternoon and evening.

However, shifts in the weather pattern are on the way for Alabama and much of the southern region. A cold front is expected to move through midweek, bringing higher rain chances on Wednesday through Thursday night.
Severe Weather Outlook
For Wednesday, September 24, the Storm Prediction Center has defined a "marginal risk" (Level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms for much of North and West Alabama.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham said that one to two inches of rain are expected through the week. Additionally, rainfall may be heavy at times across northwest Central Alabama.
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said the “Heavier storms Wednesday could produce gusty winds and hail as they pass through.” As well as a “Few strong storms are possible Thursday.”
Looking Ahead
The temperatures start to shift, becoming close to average for late September, beginning on Thursday.
