Tuscaloosa Alumni Turn Facebook Idea Into Major Event
Many high school alumni in the Tuscaloosa area are doing more and more when it comes to events around the city. Homecoming is becoming a bigger and bigger event for Alumni with schools like Bryant High School and Central High School.
Central High School's homecoming tailgate changed its location this year, and many would say that it's due to the amount of growth the tailgate has had over the years.
Class Day Out is a concept that many schools have adopted in the area as well. Over the weekend, a Class Day Out event for Hillcrest High School alumni and friends was hosted at H&H Farms.
In just the second year of doing this event, which started online as an idea, Shanequa Carter was able to host this event that drew over 700 people.
The Class Day Out event didn't have a single act of violence or trouble, and its attendees consisted of Hillcrest alumni as well as friends of alumni.
"This was a Facebook status I made last year," Carter said during an interview on the Big Dawg DreDay Show in the Morning with Comedian LP.

"If we utilize that social media for more than drama and the things we use it for, it could be a powerful tool. We're in unprecedented times, and people don't know how they're going to feed their children."
Vendors were present at the Hillcrest Class Day out and different classes from 1988 through 2014 and more were represented with decorated tents, food, and more.
Carter plans to continue the annual Class Day Out event next year in Tuscaloosa.
