Junior League of Tuscaloosa Honored by City of Northport for Community Service

An organization that has served the Tuscaloosa County community for 94 years was honored at the City of Northport city council meeting on Monday, September 9.

The Junior League of Tuscaloosa (JLT) “has been training volunteers and developing leadership skills in women through community-enhancing efforts. The JLT offers a passionate cadre of women dedicated to bettering our city and acting as a voice for those in need.”

At Monday's city council session, the City of Northport designated September 19 as International Find the Good Day, supporting the Junior League of Tuscaloosa's mission to recognize and promote positive community contributions that bolster West Alabama's resilience.

What is International Find the Good Day?

This day was created by the Junior League, which is “dedicated to finding the good in yourself, your community, and the world around you.” On September 19, Junior Leagues nationwide will organize events to benefit others and raise awareness.

"We are excited to join the Junior League of Tuscaloosa in celebrating International Find the Good Day," said City of Northport Council President Christy Bobo. "This day is a reminder of the power of unity and positive change. By focusing on the good, we can make a meaningful difference in our community and beyond. We are proud to celebrate the work of the Junior League of Tuscaloosa and stand with the organization as they lead the community in their efforts.”

Junior League of Tuscaloosa President Shanna McIntosh and board members attended the city council meeting to accept the honor.

"International Find the Good Day is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the positive impact we can have when we come together as a community," said McIntosh. "We are thrilled to see the City of Northport supporting this cause and encouraging residents to join us in fostering an environment of optimism and resilience."

JLT International Find the Good Day Initiative

On September 19, JLT “will launch a community initiative on this day – Period Pantry – that provides feminine hygiene products for local women in need,” said the press release.
