Yes, I have heard it before but never tested the theory.

This time, I typed my first and last name into the website and it was right on the screen in front of me.

I had money, yes money, that was "unclaimed" and waiting for me.

All I had to do was fill out a few forms.

This week is National Unclaimed Property Week, and Alabama residents are missing out.

According to a report from WSFA-TV in Montgomery, over 10 million assets of unclaimed property are available in Alabama.

It really takes very little time to find out if you have unclaimed property and/or money.

The fact remains, according to Alabama state treasurer, Young Boozer, the value of the unclaimed assets is over $1 billion.

According to WSFA-TV, the state is sending out 20,000 letters to folks they believe have assets in the state vault.

That doesn't mean you will get a letter if you have unclaimed assets. It is highly possible that you could have the unclaimed money or property and not receive a notice of any kind.

Here are the websites that I used to do my searches. It only took a few seconds to find out.

https://www.usa.gov/unclaimed-money was the first site I checked out.

That led me to this site: https://www.missingmoney.com/

All you need is a first and last name to check your name, or a family member/friend.

Who knows? You just might have a valuable asset waiting to be claimed by you.

It could change lots of things in your life, and you can only find out if you check your name.
