With the summer coming to an end, the back to school campaign has begun. Organizations all over have started to advertise their back to school specials and promote the events associated with it. Contests, giveaways, and rallys have started in the name of school being so close to starting back.

Mind Changers, Inc, a nonprofit organization is an example of just that. This organization is known to host an event for back to school every year since 2013. Those aren’t the only events they host in Tuscaloosa.

Recently, on July 13 they hosted a “Beat The Heat Day” where they had over 100 kids come enjoy free swimming, food, and fun.

Mind Changers CEO/Founder Rodney Pelt announced an upcoming event on August 2nd for kids in the community. They, along with their sponsors, will be hosting their 12th annual Back to School West Side Community Fun Day from 10am-1pm at Freeman Park.

During an interview with 105.1 The Block, Pelt stated that the event will have “Backpacks, hygiene supplies, school supplies, free swimming, 500 meals, bounce houses, games, food, and fun.” Since the event started, back in 2013, this has been an excellent safe way for kids to get out of the house and enjoy themselves.

This event will be sponsored by the YMCA, PARA, The Coley Agency, High Life Image, Cornerstone FGBC, Central High Class of 91’, Studio 25, Christ Baptist Church, Me Time Book Club, Tuscaloosa Association of Realtors, The Charm Academt, Epsilon Mu Sigma-Rhoer Club, and Fork in the Road Foundation. It will also include music from DJ Tank Sinatra.
