Some moms and expecting moms in West Alabama have a chance to get paid from telling their birth stories with this West Alabama organization.
In the state of Alabama, there were 57,858 live births in the year 2023 according to March Of Dimes. Of those almost 60,000 births,  According to UAB Medicine, 10 to 20 percent of women do not know their pregnancy is high-risk until labor, and 12 percent of deliveries are premature.
There are multiple reasons a pregnancy could be considered high-risk.
Obesity, mental health concerns, age, medical conditions like diabetes, hypertension or preeclampsia are just some of the reasons a woman's birth could be labeled high-risk.
There is an organization in West Alabama that has partnered with UAB to pay current and expecting moms for hearing their birth stories.
