A frontal boundary will pass through the region today into Thursday, bringing the potential for thunderstorms. Storms are expected to develop with multiple eaves throughout the day and tomorrow.

The most active storms are expected this afternoon and evening, gradually tapering off later tonight before redeveloping again Thursday morning.

Risk Level

The Storm Prediction Center has maintained the Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) for severe storms across portions of the region both today and tomorrow.

Wednesday Risk Areas

The Townsquare Media West Alabama Coverage area counties are included in the risk area for Wednesday. This includes Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties.

West Alabama Thursday Risk Areas

Bibb – lower half of the county

Hale – lower half of the county

Perry – entire county

Sumter – a very small southern corner of the county

Threats

The National Weather Service in Birmingham reminds residents that “these storms will be capable of producing damaging winds up to 60 mph.”

In addition, “heavier storms today and tomorrow could produce hail and strong, gusty winds,” said James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist.
