Good News to Start the Weekend

According to recent updates from the National Weather Service in Birmingham, the marginal risk of severe storms has been removed for Friday night into Saturday morning, including West Alabama.

Also, the Saturday morning into the evening threat has been confined to “locations generally along and south of the I-87 corridor, with their threats being large hail up to quarter-size and damaging winds up to 60 mph.”

James Spann, Alabama Weather Network and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist, said, “Several bands of showers are passing through Alabama early this morning ahead of a surface front. The front will stall over Central Alabama later today, then it will move northward this evening as a warm front.”

Then, on Saturday, North Alabama will see showers, and that system will move southward.

Temperature Drop

Winter-like temperatures sneak back into the forecast, where spots across West Alabama will see a difference of 18 to 20 degrees between Saturday and Sunday’s forecasted high.

“A freeze is likely for much of Alabama both Monday and Tuesday morning with lows generally in the 20s,” said Spann. “Some of the colder pockets over North Alabama could reach the upper teens early Tuesday.”
