20 Years After Disappearance, Police Still Seeking Justice for Northport Girl Found Dead
Days before what would have been her 31st birthday, investigators in Tuscaloosa County are once again asking for answers about the disappearance and death of a Northport girl two decades ago.
Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said 11-year-old Heaven LaSahe Ross was reported missing from Willowbrook Mobile Home Park in Northport on August 19th, 2003.
Despite a massive search involving countless law enforcement officers, Ross was not found. More than three years later, her remains were found in an abandoned home in the Holt area in December 2006.
Kennedy said although investigators have worked the case diligently, the person or people responsible for the girl's death have never been identified and brought to justice. The case has never been closed, and remains active with the Violent Crimes Unit, he said.
Monday, June 12th will mark Heaven's 31st birthday, and Kennedy and the VCU are using that occasion to remind the public of her death and the still-active investigation into its circumstances.
