Investigators have arrested a man they accuse of being responsible for and also wounded in a gunfight at Tuscaloosa's Brookhaven Apartments earlier this month.

The shooting left two men injured and came just days after a reportedly unrelated shooting at the same housing complex left one man dead and another victim hurt.

The second shooting happened before dawn on Sunday, May 18th. In court documents filed Tuesday, police say Brett Abrams, a 36-year-old Tuscaloosa man, is responsible.

In a deposition, investigators say Abrams was the initial aggressor in the shooting and hit a 23-year-old man at Brookhaven Apartments, severely injuring him.

Police say gunfire was exchanged and Abrams was also injured and was later admitted to DCH, where police identified him as the Brookhaven suspect based on details provided by witnesses or surveillance footage.

Now that Abrams has been treated and released from the hospital, police have charged him with attempted murder in connection to the incident.

He was still in the Tuscaloosa County Jail Tuesday evening, where his bond has not yet been set.

Although the shooting happened less than a week after the one that killed 41-year-old Travaris Keandre Banks, police say the cases do not seem connected.

"There is no evidence that this incident was related to the previous shooting/murder that occurred at the same apartment complex earlier this week," Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said earlier this month.
