A beloved Tuscaloosa radio personality is hosting a car show and community flea market this weekend to raise money for his efforts to revitalize the Holt area.

"Cap'n" Ray Allen has shared traffic conditions, weather updates and more on local airwaves for decades but has recently become sharply focused on Holt, the unincorporated community of a few thousand residents in northeast Tuscaloosa.

Allen says Holt has been neglected for years and is blighted by litter, trash and debris, abandoned property and structures. He launched a new nonprofit, Help Holt Heal, last year to raise money and take concrete steps for the improvement of the area.

Allen said his first focus is on those abandoned properties - to either see them condemned and demolished, or bought and rehabbed into affordable housing for the community.

This Saturday, Allen and Help Holt Heal will host a car, truck and motorcycle show and flea market in the parking lot of the old Holt High School on Alabama Avenue.

The event is sponsored by Billy's Cooking and promises fun for the whole family with a giant community yard sale and flea market, food trucks, the car show and more.

Allen said some used vehicles will also be available for sale Saturday, with financing options on-site.
