The launch of Tuscaloosa's Holidays on the Plaza ice skating rink has been postponed because of mechanical difficulties, the city announced Monday afternoon.

A city spokesperson told local media that supply issues and other problems have made it impossible to open the ice skating rink as scheduled Monday, and now the long-running attraction is expected to return early next week.

The Tinsel Trail of sponsored Christmas Trees will still open Monday night, which will also feature the debut of the Retail Trail open house at dozens of downtown restaurants, bars and businesses.

Updates about the skating rink will be shared to the Holidays on the Plaza social media accounts and holidaysontheplaza.com as well as here on the Tuscaloosa Thread.

The city will also host an musical tree-lighting ceremony this Friday at 5:30 p.m., when city council president Kip Tyner will host at the Gateway on University Boulevard in Alberta.

That event will be free and open to the public.
