An Indiana man who has lived in Tuscaloosa for several years was arrested Friday and charged with 10 counts of possessing child pornography, police told local media.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said agents of the West Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force received a tip in March that 24-year-old Joe Bradley Garvin may have possessed explicit material depicting a child.

WAHTTF launched an investigation and partnered with the Alabama Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and TPD’s Cyber Intelligence Unit on the case.

With a warrant issued, police searched Garvin’s Tuscaloosa residence in July and have since allegedly discovered 10 images and videos on seized electronic devices that contain child pornography. In Alabama, each file brings its own felony charge.

Garvin was charged with 10 counts of possession of obscene material depicting a child younger than 17.

The 24-year-old was arrested Friday morning and later released from the Tuscaloosa County Jail after posting $150,000 bond.

Taylor said Garvin has lived in Tuscaloosa for several years but his permanent address is in Indiana. She said additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
