Police are in downtown Tuscaloosa Saturday night, where a man has been shot and killed in a suspected homicide.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said officers were called to a parking lot behind the Embassy Suites hotel on University Boulevard and Greensboro Avenue downtown.

The call came in around 9:11 p.m. Saturday, she said.

She said a male was found dead from a gunshot wound, and after an initial investigation, officers believe this was a homicide.

Taylor said the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is taking over the investigation and will release any updates as they are available.

If it bears out to be a homicide, it will be the 18th investigated in Tuscaloosa County this year.
