The release states Sheriff Nick Smith, along with patrol deputies, responded to the scene where an investigation determined two teenage girls were found in separate rooms, each with an adult male.

Due to the age of the victims, the Walker County Department of Human Resources was notified and responded to the scene. The men in the case both had outstanding warrants with the Jasper Police Department and were taken into custody.

The post states the investigation revealed a parent of one of the girls drove her to the motel, rented the room and at some point, left her unattended. The parent was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

The release states additional charges are expected to be filed as the Walker County Sheriff’s Office Sexual Crimes Division and DHR continue to investigate the situation.

The release said the Walker County Sheriff's Office will continue to protect the children of the area, who they said are "our greatest asset in Walker County."

"This is a very heartbreaking situation, and thinking about this entire situation will make anyone physically sick—especially another parent," the post read. "The amount of trauma and mental anguish that these girls have and will endure in the future is troubling to say the least. Our office, along with DHR and the Walker County District Attorney’s Office will be making every effort and diligent in seeking justice to the fullest extent of the law."

The post said the identities of the suspects are being withheld to protect the safety of the children involved as the investigation continues.
