The city of Tuscaloosa will work with a new partner to book talent at the recently-renamed Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater for the first time since the venue opened in 2011.

Birmingham's Red Mountain Entertainment booked the Avett Brothers to introduce the public to the originally named Tuscaloosa Amphitheater more than 13 years ago, and the promoters have brought in every show since.

Last week, though, the Tuscaloosa City Council voted to give notice to Red Mountain that they would not be renewing the Amp contract, which is set to expire on December 31st of this year.

“Red Mountain Entertainment has played a vital role in the creation and growth of the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater,”  said Mayor Walt Maddox in a statement. “Their dedication and efforts have laid a strong foundation for us to build upon.”

The news come amid many upgrades at the Amp. The new name was announced less than a year ago to highlight the special relationship between the city and Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, and officials are currently weighing a 10-year plan to transform and upgrade the space.

In a separate vote this Tuesday night, the council voted to enter into a new agreement with Danny Wimmer Presents Talent Services, LLC going forward.

The entire seven-member council was present for Tuesday's meeting, and they voted unanimously in favor of the new contract.

"Over the past 13 years, the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater has become a vital part of our City’s legacy and a hub for economic development,” said Mayor Walt Maddox. “We are excited to continue to grow this legacy with Danny Wimmer Presents as we strive to bring in new talent and create unforgettable experiences for our community.”
