Lil Tecca’s “Ransom” Breaks Post Malone’s Record for Longest Consecutive Charting No. 1 Song on SoundCloud
At age 17, Lil Tecca continues killing it.
On Wednesday (Oct. 9) SoundCloud announced that the emerging rapper has beat out Post Malone for the longest-charting No. 1 single on the streaming platform. Tecca's "Ransom" has held the No. 1 spot on the streaming platform after remaining at No. 1 for 86 consecutive days. By holding down the spot for that long, he's broken the record for Posty's 21 Savage-assisted 2017 single "Rockstar." "Rockstar" was No. 1 for 77 weeks.
On the song, which was produced by Nick Mira and Taz Taylor, Tecca raps about a life of luxury that is now probably more accessible to him than ever.
"I got black, I got white, what you want?/Hop outside a Ghost and hop up in a Phantom/I know I’m ’bout to blow, I ain't dumb/They try to take my flow, I take they ass for ransom/I know that I’m gone/They see me blowin' up, now they say they want some," Tecca raps on the hook for the track, which appears on his We Love You Tecca project.
To date, "Ransom" has amassed over 95.1 million streams on SoundCloud. The song has accumulated nearly 100,000,000 streams, Tecca himself has received more than 275,000 followers.
Tecca, who joined SoundCloud in 2017, accepted the music service's Chart-Topper award at an event for the company. At the event, he was gifted a GRXN-customized pair of Nike Air Force 1's that hold the single's logo from the company's executives.
Earlier this week, Post Malone's single "Congratulations" featuring Quavo went diamond after two years on streaming services, placing Post among rappers like Tupac Shakur, Juicy J, and T.I. as other artists who've sold 10 million units. Clearly, Posty's commercial appeal isn't to be denied. That's a part of why he's been on the road for various shows so often.
