The City of Tuscaloosa has announced the cancellation of this week's Live at the Plaza event, originally scheduled for Friday, June 19, citing ongoing rain and unsafe conditions at Government Plaza.

According to city officials, rainfall that has already accumulated across the plaza, combined with additional rain expected through Friday, led to the difficult decision to call off the event.

The cancellation comes as the city was preparing to showcase a lineup of performers as part of its Juneteenth celebrations. While Friday's event will no longer take place, organizers say the performances won't be lost.

The City of Tuscaloosa plans to reschedule Live at the Plaza for a later date this summer, giving residents another opportunity to enjoy the entertainment once conditions improve. An announcement regarding the new date is expected in the coming weeks.

City officials encouraged residents to stay tuned for updates and thanked the community for its understanding as weather conditions continue to impact outdoor events across the area.
