LSU becomes the first school in the SEC to make this a requirement for entry to its stadium this fall as a method to combat the spread of the highly transmissible COVID-19 delta variant.

Other Louisiana football programs like Tulane and the New Orleans Saints have already made the decision to require proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test to enjoy the in-stadium experience.

“As the flagship institution of the state of Louisiana, our foremost responsibility is to ensure the safety of our students, our supporters, and our community,” LSU President William Tate said. “While we are aware of the diverse perspectives across the nation regarding masks and vaccinations, we must take all reasonable measures to protect our campus and community, not only on gamedays, but long after guests have left Tiger Stadium. The current threat to our lives, our health, and to our medical systems due to COVID-19 is overburdening our hospitals, and we must do our part to stop the spread.”

The policy will apply to everyone 12 years old or younger and will go into effect in time for the LSU's first home game on Sept. 11. Children under 5 years old will be encouraged to wear a mask, children 5-11 years old will be required to wear the face covering in the stadium.

Will LSU's decision cause a domino effect in the SEC with the other 13 member institutions?
