Magic School Bus to Blast Off at Historic Bama Theatre

A beloved children's book series will come to life on stage in downtown Tuscaloosa this fall with a musical adventure through outer space.

The Arts and Humanities Council of Tuscaloosa will present TheaterWorksUSA’s “The Magic School Bus , Lost in the Solar System” at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, at the Historic Bama Theatre.

The performance is part of the TuscArts OnStage 2026-27 season and is based on the popular “Magic School Bus” book series published by Scholastic.

The musical follows Ms. Frizzle and her students as a trip to the planetarium takes an unexpected turn. After the class becomes lost, Ms. Frizzle takes the students into outer space for an interplanetary field trip.

Along the way, rivalries between students threaten the adventure, forcing the class to learn the importance of teamwork and friendship as they attempt to find their way home.

Organizers say the production combines music, humor and adventure while introducing young audiences to the wonders of space.

The musical features music and lyrics by Matthew Lee Robinson and a book by Marshall Pailet, with original direction and choreography by Connor Gallagher.

Tickets range from $22 to $37.

The Historic Bama Theatre is located at 600 Greensboro Avenue in downtown Tuscaloosa. The box office is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
