A man was shot while walking along the Tuscaloosa Strip late Saturday night, a police spokeswoman confirmed Sunday morning.

Stephanie Taylor, the Tuscaloosa Police Department's public information officer, said the victim was walking near the Surin of Thailand restaurant at the intersection of University Boulevard and Reed Street when he heard a gunshot, looked down and realized he'd been shot in the arm.

Taylor said the police were alerted to the shooting almost immediately after midnight Saturday.

The victim was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for the injury.

The case has been turned over to the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, who did not have any additional details to release at the time of publication.
